About Richard Pryor Richard Pryor was born on December 1, 1940, in Peoria, Illinois, the United States of America.The notable stand-up comedian was raised by his parents, LeRoy Pryor and Gertrude L. Thomas. His mother abandoned him and he lived with his aunt, Marie Carter.The household that Pryor was raised in was not adequate, and his physical and mental health was substantially affected. When he was a teenager, he got expelled from his school. Richard Pryor later joined the U.S Army, while he was in the Army an incident occurred in West Germany, where Pryor was stationed. Due to that incident, Pryor and the other accused spent time in Army Prison.In 1963, Pryor decided to move to New York, where he started performing in various clubs. He performed in many clubs along with performers such as Nina Simone, Woody Allen, and Bob Dylan.
