About Indira Gandhi Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi was the only child of the late prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, who was a Kashmiri Pandit.Jawaharlal Nehru, her father, was a leading figure in the movement for independence from British rule. But this resulted in bloodshed and offended the Sikh community.
